From the Fortress of Solitude
Pleasant Grove
We recently found Luella's scrapbook in the garage. She kept it up to date from the end of grade school up until her Junior year in high school. She loved to keep her Valentine's Day card. She also kept performance programs where she sang as a soloist. There are report cards, as seen in the last blog post. The scrapbook has the Belle Fourche Roundup's 34th Anniversary Program and an ad for the Barnum and Bailey Circus.
She also had a young man named Dan very interested in courting her. Here are the scans of items I found interesting.
Luella's Elementary School Diploma
Luella's Performance in the School's Christmas Program Reviewed by the Local Paper.
Luella performed at an Elks Lodge and kept the Napkin. Why, Her Lips are on it!
Some kind of high school initiation ritual Luella had to participate in.
Luella's Signature as a Mattson
Dan Inviting Luella to a Movie. I Wonder What he meant by "and boy did they go crazy." Hummmmmm......
Gary invites Luella to the Junior Prom. Nothing fancy back in those days. A simple note is all it took.
Luella's Dance Card from the Junior Prom (She went as a sophomore)
Luella in another performance
And that ends the scrapbook, except for various odds and ends that don't mention Luella.
Love you Ma!
Ad Astra!
Victor
